What Are Cannabis Oil, Shatter, and Wax Extracts?

Shatter, wax, honeycomb, oil, crumble, sap, budder, pull-and-snap…these are some of the nicknames cannabis extracts have earned through their popularity, prevalence, and diversification. If you’ve heard any of those words before, they were likely used to describe BHO (butane hash oil), CO2 oil, or similar hydrocarbon extracts. This list of descriptive subcategories might lead you to believe that there are stark differences between each one, but the division between glass-like shatter and crumbly wax is more superficial than you’d expect.

The Best Meditation Posture

When we practice meditation we need to have a comfortable seat and a good posture. The most important feature of the posture is to keep our back straight. To help us do this, if we are sitting on a cushion we make sure that the back of the cushion is slightly higher than the front, inclining our pelvis slightly forward. It is not necessary at first to sit cross-legged, but it is a good idea to become accustomed to sitting in the posture of Buddha Vairochana. If we cannot hold this posture we should sit in one which is as close to this as possible while remaining comfortable.

Traveling to California for Legal Cannabis? Here’s What to Know

Sorry, Los Angeles won’t be one of the cities where stores are open when the state-regulated market launches on New Year’s Day. (TriggerPhoto/iStock)

It’s been a strange year. You’re forgiven if you don’t feel quite ready for 2018. But if you’re traveling to California for New Year’s Day and the state’s launch of adult-use cannabis sales, take heart! We’re here for you.

Sales Don’t Begin Everywhere on Jan. 1

If you’re counting on cannabis stores to be open near you on Jan. 1, don’t. Many parts of the state, including major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, won’t see legal sales begin until days or weeks after New Year’s Day. Others have decided to ban retail sales entirely. To help you plan, we’ve been putting together a list of cities where dispensaries are expected to be up and running.

Why the uneven rollout? In the months leading up to Jan. 1, state and local officials scrambled to put rules in place. Not everybody finished in time for sales to start on Day One.

New studies are providing further insight on why these substances work, how they can be used most effectively, and what new applications they may have in the future.

Is More CBD Better? The Science Behind CBD Dosing for Anxiety and Other Conditions

In 2015, the National Institute of Health allotted $21.2 million of its $111 million cannabinoid research budget towards projects exploring the medicinal potential of these compounds. These projects proposed to manipulate the body’s endocannabinoid system, either by modifying endocannabinoids or with phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant.

While the primary psychoactive phytocannabinoid, delta 9-THC, has acknowledged medicinal value, cannabidiol (CBD) is widely known for its broad range of potential medicinal uses. In recognition of CBD’s vast potential, over $9 million in grants were awarded in 2015 to fund CBD-specific medicinal research.
